В Велико-Тырново мы оказались не случайно. Планируя свою короткую поездку в Болгарию и не имея достаточно времени, чтобы “объять необъятное”, мы наметили посетить только два города, которые в культурно-историческом плане посчитали для себя самыми интересными. Это Пловдив и Велико-Тырново. И, признаться, были уверены, что Пловдив в этой паре — безусловный фаворит. Однако, познакомившись с городами ближе, наше мнение изменилось. Велико-Тырново нас очаровал.
Раскинувшись в прекрасном месте среди Балканских холмов в 210 м над уровнем моря, он действительно завораживает своей красотой и своеобразием. Вот он, красавец, стоит в дымке облаков.
Посмотрим на него чуть ближе.
Еще ближе. Вот так, повторяя причудливые изгибы живописной Янтры, вьющейся в ущельях меж холмов, он тянется вдоль ее русла, занимая холмы и цепляясь за склоны.
А Янтра настолько удивительно эти холмы огибает, что практически превращает их в своеобразные полуострова. Так это выглядит на карте.

Плотная застройка города полностью опоясывает склоны этих холмов, сливаясь с природой в единое целое и формируя самобытный архитектурный стиль Велико-Тырново.
Теснящиеся друг к другу каменные дома с красными черепичными крышами поднимаются от пропасти к вершине так, что кажется, будто они стоят на крышах друг у друга.
На самом деле их разделяют улицы и улочки, они поднимаются рядами друг за другом вверх, как ступеньки. Каждая следующая улица – это новый уровень, новый ряд с домами. И так до самой вершины.
Получается такой своеобразный амфитеатр, нависающий над крутыми обрывами Янтры.
Панорамы открываются потрясающие, с каждой стороны совершенно разные.
Городские кварталы сменяют развалины древних строений на Трапезице.
За Трапезицей уходит в облака таинственный Царевец. В эпоху Болгарского царства там размещался царский дворец и резиденция патриарха.
А между ними возникает средневековый квартал, раскинувшийся в низине у самой реки.
Все эти части разбросанного по холмам уникального города тесно связаны между собой хорошими дорогами с бесконечными мостами и мостиками, перекинутыми через Янтру, и туннелями, прорезающими скалы.
Дома и улицы в Велико-Тырново такие же необычные и завораживающие, как панорамы и внешние очертания города. Впечатляют не меньше. Но об этом будет другой рассказ. Не пропустите.
